What is a Certificate of Equivalence?
A certificate of equivalence is a document showing that your school is equivalent to schools in Turkey. In other words, the equivalence certificate shows that the associate, bachelor’s or master’s degree obtained from a higher education institution recognised abroad is equivalent to the associate, bachelor’s or master’s degree obtained from higher education institutions in Turkey. “What is a Certificate of Equivalence?” is an important issue that foreign students often ask.
Without a certificate of equivalence, you cannot enrol in a university providing education in Turkey. It is more convenient and easier for you to apply for equivalence while you are in your own country. You need to apply to the National Education Directorates in your country for equivalence application. If you can not get a certificate of equivalence from your country, you can apply from Turkey.
How Do Foreign Students Get Equivalence Certificate?
Foreign students studying in Turkey are required to obtain a certificate of equivalence to determine whether the education they receive in their home country is valid in Turkey. Equivalence certificate is a document given as a result of the evaluation of foreign countries’ education systems by comparing them with the education system in Turkey.
In order to be able to study at university, undergraduate, graduate or doctoral level in Turkey, students are required to obtain a certificate of equivalence for the diploma they receive from their schools in their home country.
Prepare The Necessary Documents
When you apply for recognition, you should have your original diploma and transcripts for all academic periods ready. It is very important that the original documents are stamped. Because documents that are not approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are not accepted by the education directorates or Provincial Directorate of National Education in your country.
Who Can Apply For Recognition?
- Turkish Citizens Graduated from Universities in Turkey: Graduates of associate, bachelor’s or master’s degree programmes.
- Foreign Nationals Educated Abroad: Foreign nationals who graduated from associate, bachelor’s or master’s degree programmes abroad.
- Higher Education Institutions Recognition Letter for Foreign Nationals: Foreign nationals applying for a master’s or doctoral degree at universities abroad can obtain this certificate for fields other than health.
